WHO WE ARE...
A social group of women with a charitable purpose of supporting United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) in California since 1968.
Our fund raising efforts have led to over $1.7 million in total contributions
since May 31, 1968.
We are proud of this accomplishment and invite you to revisit our website frequently for information
about the events our chapters sponsor.
OUR HISTORY...
Psi Delta Sigma National
Sorority was founded on February 21, 1921 in the State of Illinois. As of 1948, more than 2,500 members had been initiated
and forty-four chapters organized in four states: Illinois, Ohio, California and Wisconsin. In sharp contrast, there are seven
chapters remaining exclusively in Southern California.
The youth of the founding members (late teens), as well
as the era in which Psi Delta Sigma was founded, helps to explain the presence of the ceremonies, rituals and trappings which
are normally associated with fraternal groups. While there is no denying the fact that sorority rituals, per se, must be regarded
as somewhat incongruous in today's world, the original ceremonies are a portion of the heritage of Psi Delta Sigma which has
managed to survive.
Originally incorporated in the State of Illinois, Psi Delta Sigma was reincorporated in the
State of California on September 23, 1955 as Psi Delta Sigma National Sorority, Inc. At that time United Cerebral Palsy,
as the organization is known today, was selected as the charity to which Psi Delta Sigma would give its total support. Today we are Psi Delta Sigma, Inc. -- a group of social ladies with
a charitable purpose. Within our organizational structure is the Psi Delta Sigma Association, or Grand Chapter. A single Board
of Trustees serves both the social and charitable organizations: Psi Delta Sigma, Inc. and Psi Delta Sigma Association.
The State Chapter, whose membership is a composite of the Local Chapters, has immediate administrative jurisdiction
over all Local Chapters. State Chapter meetings provide a forum for the presentation of projects and ideas. Five meetings
are held annually.
